📍 Empadronamiento
Empadronamiento (municipal registration) is the registration of your address at the Concello (town hall) of Vigo. It is MANDATORY and the very first thing you need to do.

Documentos:
- Pasaporte o documento de identidad
- Contrato de alquiler o autorización del titular de la vivienda
- Si no tienes contrato: declaración responsable del titular + su DNI/NIE
💡 Empadronamiento is free of charge. You can register even without legal residence papers. It is the basis for accessing healthcare, education, and proving residence for arraigo (rooted residence permit).

Tiempo medio arraigo: ~4 meses
The immigration office is in Pontevedra (30 min by train). Appointments are much easier to get than in Madrid or Barcelona.

💡 Vigo's center is compact and walkable. Buses cover the whole city. For trips to Pontevedra or Santiago, take a Renfe train (30–60 min).

💡 Registered immigrants have the right to public healthcare regardless of their legal status.
Empleo
SEPE (Public Employment Service) office in Vigo. To register as a jobseeker you need an NIE (Foreigner Identity Number) and a work permit.
